September 23, 2023. Clemson Gameday.

Today, we were fortunate to get awesome tickets to the football game between #4 ranked Florida State University and unranked Clemson University.

A friend of our daughter has grandparents who wanted to sell a couple of their seats for this game. Kindly, they sold them to us at face value and also invited us to their tailgate party prior to the contest.

It was a noon EST start time so we decided to leave Airbnb at around 8:30 to give us plenty of time to navigate inbound traffic, park in our pre-purchased parking and walk over to the tailgating site at Tiger Park.

Orange and purple tailgaters were everywhere along our walk to reach our tailgate party!

Entering the private Tiger Park area, we had to get a pass from our group to get in for the tailgate.

Our hosts – Johnie and Doug – have owned this small plot of tailgating land for about 20 years (slightly wider than the width of their car). They also pay nominal annual maintenance fees for the facilities on site. In the ensuing years, the tree in the background has grown from a small seedling to what is now a substantial shade tree – ideal for the warm South Carolina fall days. It borders one of the main roads into town which affords great people-watching.

Our hosts provided an excellent spread!

I decided to walk around Tiger Park to capture the flavor of the dozens of tailgaters present…

At around 11:30 we decided to make the short walk over to the stadium. Other lots harbored many dozen other purple and orange-clad revelers…

From a prior year.

Johnie and Doug have excellent seats – about 9 rows up from the field in the end zone opposite the very big scoreboard…

Interestingly, throughout the game, the stadium displayed the decibel levels of the crowd. Always LOUD!

It was a very exciting game – Clemson led or was tied with the Seminoles for the entire regulation time until FSU pulled it out in overtime 31-24.

After the game was decided, we took advantage of the opportunity to walk on the field.

College kids don’t drink alcohol, right? 😋

After the game, we hung out a little hoping the traffic would dissipate before we headed back to the Airbnb. It was a pleasant mile walk back to the lot from the stadium. But the local police closed off several roads so we were forced to make detours from our original route.

But it was fine as we picked up some dinner along the detour home and headed out to our hosts’ garden to watch some more college football and enjoy another balmy southern evening.

Firepit on our porch while listening to the cicadas “sing” in the dark forest. Thanks for a wonderful day Clemson and Anderson!
